Commercial Properties Group has purchased Lot 206 Horwood Rd, Geraldton with the intention of developing this strategic site into a dedicated bulky goods precinct for the fast growing City of Geraldton, the primary commercial centre of the Mid West Region of Western Australia.

The Mid West region is rapidly developing to a major resource region with a number of Chinese and locally owned entities, having found billions of tones of iron ore in the hinterland.

Initial production from some companies has been exported through the Port of Geraldton but most are due to commence their operations in 2015 which coincides with the opening of the proposed Oakajee deepwater port and industrial precinct situated 25 km north of the City of Geraldton.

The Homeport site is strategically located on a major arterial route that will serve the new Oakajee Port and 4km from the existing CBD.

Although no final investment decision has been made on the Oakajee Port, market analysts now generally acknowledge that the port will be built in this current iron ore growth phase.

The site is zoned Highway Commercial which is tailored to accommodate bulky goods retailers who are typically seeking to build showrooms of between 200sqm and 3000sqm

As the City continues to grow (Local Government Planning is operating under the assumption that a population of 100,000 people should be planned for) demand for bulky goods will continue to increase and Homeport is ideally positioned to cater for this increased demand.

This growth recently prompted The Australian’s respected property analyst - Terry Ryder of hotspotting.com.au - to elevate Geraldton to his number one pick for a property investment in Australia.
